Day 0 - 26.11.2014 - 11:53 - Catalonia -
Jutta Eliks, experienced in travelling through Europe due to her English studies, Michael Manske, football expert and skilled in investigative research and Tamara Güclü, multicultural background but closely in touch with her Swabian roots – that’s team independence.
First, our route will lead us to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and afterwards to the Spanish part of the Basque Country. Although Catalonia and the Basque Country both are historic autonomous communities in Spain, their pursuit of independence differs greatly today. While the Basques have cooled down their ambitions to separate from Spain after the end of the ETA-terror, the Catalans are currently in the middle of a strong process to regain their independence from Spain.
Our third station will be Belgium. There, we will take a closer look at the enduring discrepancies between the French-speaking Walloons and the Dutch-speaking Flemings. All these parts of Europe unite in the aspiration of separating from each other. We will try to find out, what all these movements have in common and what the differences are.
